On Saturday, October 21, 2023, Spinal Cord Injury Ontario (SCIO) and local supporter, client and volunteer, Mike Mulligan hosted the London Wheelchair Relay at Carling Heights Optimist Community Centre. The event was the perfect opportunity to make a powerful impact on the lives of people with disabilities and have fun doing it.
The goal was to raise $10,000 for the London regional SCIO branch, in support of the transformational programs and services that empower people living with spinal cord injury.
About SCIO
There are approximately 1,715 new cases of spinal cord injury in Ontario each year. Spinal Cord Injury Ontario (SCIO) was founded over 75 years ago and they continue to inspire organizations and individuals to learn about issues relating to living with a spinal cord injury, and to take philanthropic action to effect change.
They work with municipal and provincial governments to make changes on systemic levels and together with health care providers across Ontario to protect the health and well-being of people living with spinal cord injury. They work directly with their clients and their families in large and small communities throughout the long and challenging journey from injury to recovery to rehabilitation and independent living.
About the Event
The 2023 London Region Wheelchair Relay raised awareness and support for SCIO through a family friendly afternoon full of fun activities and, to top it all off, a wheelchair relay race! The relay consisted of fun challenges for participants of all abilities.
